Installation is the same as for scraper3, Click on the link above to download the mMosaic.zip file. Extract the contents to a temporary folder, change to that directory, and run the setup.exe program to install.
Undeterred by the warm reception of Scraper III, I have persevered and continued with development of the project to the point where we now have mMosaic. I have changed the name because it is no longer just a page scraper. It now includes the results of some custom computations & analysis as well, and puts them all together to present a quick fairly comprehensive picture of the critical parameters of stocks that may be unfamiliar. It has now matured to the point where I have become addicted to the rapidity of its response.
mMosaic is a considerably expanded version, but the layout is basically the same as that of the Scraper, only more tabs for each of the windows.
Below is a picture of mMosaic, and here are some notes about some of the changes:
- First, you will notice that the programs takes much longer to load. That is because it is loading a lot more data at startup. Most of that time is spent loading 2 weeks of earnings calendar data into the program. If you enter a stock symbol, or select one from one of the lists, & it has earnings coming up in the next 2 weeks, that info is displayed in the header panel.
- Also on the header panel is a check box to keep the mMosaic floating on top, if you have multiple monitors & want it handy but not while doing something with another application this feature will be useful.
- Also on the header panel, the Industry Group for the currently displayed symbol is displayed, and there is an "Add" button that will add the currently displayed symbol to the "Other Stocks" list viewable from in the lower panel.
- I have now included 2 different news both Yahoo™ and Prophet™ news headlines.
- The Pivots panel has been enhanced to include a graphical display of where the stock price is compared to its 50-day & 20-day ranges.
- There is now a Program Info Panel that doesn't really have much yet, for now just the creation dates for the included data files.
- The lower panel has the lists. This version has added a Competitors list for the selected stock, and a "Other Stocks" list. Stocks can be added to this list manually from the header panel, or loaded from a file by "Right Clicking" on that panel. The file must include only stock symbols separated by white space, common delimiter, or a new line.
- The Alert List still doesn't work L
, … yet, but it will soon I think the problem is actually in mIRC & I need to change some things in the broadcasted alerts.
- And, last, I added a calendar. It doesn't really do anything yet, but it was a snap to add, and I figured someone would eventually come up with some way to use it J
, possibly something to do with the logging feature still under development.
- What's next?? Well, that pretty much depends on how addictive it is. There are some obvious things, like a "phone home" and auto-update for data files, data for more symbols included ( now ~4000 for basic data, & 2500 for correlations), maybe if there is enough interest, even a real time data connection.
